After seven years of delays and false starts, the first stage of Translink’s much vaunted state-wide Smart Ticketing project has been fully rolled out with the announcement of contactless payment options being available on Transport for Brisbane’s bus network. This means full fare passengers can utilise non-go card options (including credit and debit cards, wearables and digital wallets) to access public transport throughout South East Queensland. Concession fares (school students, pensioners etc) will still need to use the go card until a promised new system is delivered at a later date.
With the project’s first phase now complete, it will be interesting how quickly regional Queensland will see the project delivered.
